INFANT ROOM

Señora Denise Moreland

Hi, welcome to our web site!
My name is Denis Moreland. I live in Chimayo, NM. I have one son, Jeremy Ortiz, married to Annette.  I have three beautiful granddaughters, Alexis-8, Deandrea-5 and Jasmine-3months.

I graduated from Española High School and attended Northern New Mexico Community College.  My “on hands” experience was with my son, and my granddaughters. I also worked at a Day Care, here in White Rock, also in the infant room.  I really enjoy watching the infants grow and learn. I have a 45- hour training class in Early Childhood, CPR and Basic First Aid skills. I also have a 24- hour training class, which is a yearly requirement.

Besides taking my granddaughters to the park, pool, walks, etc... I also enjoy camping, fishing, antiquing, and football.  I'm very proud of my family.

Also, the chance to work here at Bilingual Montessori School, and to be in the Infant Room! I'm proud for the chance I had to attend a conference for The National Association for the Education of Young Children (N.A.A.E.Y.C), in Atlanta, Georgia in November of 2006.

Señora Selene Duran

Hello Parents!

My name is Selene Duran I was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. I am fully bilingual. I now live in Los Alamos,NM. I have worked in State Day cares and private schools. I have worked with children that have had deficiencies to speak and hear. I fully understand the importance to help children dominate their language skills. I believe that it is a great advantage for children to be bilingual at an early age. I am very dedicated to my work and most important of all I love children. I understand as a parent myself how important our children are to us. I can assure that all children will be in good hands and most important will learn to dominate both Spanish and English. To me it is very important to have communication with parents to fully understand the goals that they want their children to accomplish here at Bilingual Montessori School. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to work here at Bilingual Montessori School in a diverse environment with all children.

PRE-EARLY CHILDHOOD

Señora Silvia Román

Hi,

I am Silvia Roman. I was born in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. I went to college in Bolivia to earn a degree in Tourism, so I studied English and German. After college, I went to Bern, Switzerland for a year to practice German. The following year, I came to the United State to continue studying English where I met my husband, Jorge. We have been married for 18 years and since then I have been living in Los Alamos. Jorge is a computer scientist working at the Laboratory for 25 years. We have three children, Cristina 15, Miguel 13, and Lucia 11. Lucia was born with Down Syndrome, but thanks to early intervention and the support of families, friends and teachers, she is becoming an amazing girl. She is a trouble maker too.

I continued my studies at UNM and Northern NM Community College hoping to finish Elementary Education someday. In the meantime I really love working at the Bilingual Montessori School as a substitute caregiver for those adorable children. I hope we will have more children enrolled in the school, so I will have a full time position working with them.

I was seven when my brother was born and since the day I saw him, I fell in love with infants and toddlers. I have been around infants all my life. I also enjoy reading, quilting, traveling and gardening

Señora Martha Sorensen

Warmest Greetings.

I am Martha Sorensen, I moved to White Rock in August of 2008 from Hawaii.  Living in Hawaii for the past thirty years brought me a wonderful opportunity of learning the Hawaiian culture, along with Japanese, Chinese, Philippino and Portuguese customs.  While loving the people of the Islands and living in the “Aloha” state, I later was blessed with raising my two children. William is currently attending his last year at Chamisa  Elementary,  Cassandra is a sophomore and a full time cheerleader at Los Alamos High School.

While living on the Big Island of Hawaii, once my children were of age to start school I experienced a joy when volunteering or working along side teachers and parents working together to provide the best education for our children.  After a couple of years, I later joined a large growing community of home schooling families. I enjoy being around children, to see their enthusiasm in learning.  Life is truly wonderful and seeing it or hearing it through their accomplishments is a testimony in itself.  We are never too old or too wise to learn.

Recently I married Bradley, a wonderful man who has lived in White Rock for the past ten years.  Who brings a beautiful daughter/sister to our family, her name is Carley.  So now we are five :)  Brad is an employee of the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Although never forgetting my roots, I was born in Roswell and raised by both parents and shared a home with two siblings. A large hispanic family made of grandparents, uncles, aunts and several cousins. With always some kind of family occasion to visit each other.

I would like to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be involved in your precious children learning experiences.  I look forward to working along with all the families and staff here at Bilingual Montessori School, united together in the same goals for all our children.

Blessings to you and yours ~

Señorita Jennifer Jones

Hello Parents! My name is Jennifer Jones and I am excited to be working at the Bilingual Montessori School. I currently reside in White Rock, NM. I was born and raised here in White Rock but have traveled many places in the past years. I attended College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine where I received a degree in Human Ecology and my teaching certificate for K-8. I spent 5 years working at a local daycare called Kid’s Corner Inc in Bar Harbor. This part-time job is what fueled my interest in teaching. After graduating I lived in Charlotte, NC where I was a nanny for a family. From there I moved to a small bush village, Atqasuk, in Alaska where I taught a combination class of 1st and 2nd grade Native Alaskan Eskimos. After leaving the bush of Alaska I came back here to recuperate and reevaluate my life. I look forward to spending the next school year teaching here at BMS.

I have two four-legged babies named Oakley and Paddington, both adopted from the shelter. Oakley is 3 years old now and Paddington is 6 months. I enjoy reading and running in my spare time.

Señora Keira Arce

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

My name is Keira Marie Arce-Ramos and I am 26 years-old. I come from Puerto Rico, "The island of the enchantment". I graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus, with a degree in Civil Engineering. As an engineer, I previously worked in the design and consultation area of retaining walls, which required a lot of dedication and responsibility. These characteristics are my ultimate goals here at the Bilingual Montessori School (BMS).

I have a wonderful husband who is also a civil engineer and a surveyor, and we have a beautiful 2-year old daughter name Paula Sofía. For us, living in Los Alamos is like a dream come true. We really enjoy the serenity of life here!

In my family, there are many dedicated and licensed teachers including my mom and my sister, who constantly encourage me to improve myself in ways that I can give your kids my best. Teaching, for me, is a very unique experience in my professional career. It brings great value to my professional and personal life and it is an experience that will always stay with me.

I am really excited to be a part of the BMS and am thankful to you for allowing me to take part in your children education.

Blessings,

Señora Odalys G. Fernández

director/owner

Hola!

I was born in Santa Clara, Cuba. My parents left Cuba with my brother Efrén (now lives in Los Angeles) and I in 1968. I grew up in Ponce, Puerto Rico where I meet my husband, Juan Carlos Fernández. We got married in 1980 and lived in Berkeley, California, from 1980 to 1984, while he pursued his Ph.D. Los Alamos National Laboratory offered Juan a permanent position which he accepted, and we moved to Los Alamos in 1985.

Our first daughter Diana was born in 1982 in Berkeley and now lives in Nepal. We had two more children at Los Alamos: Juan Manuel, now a U.S Marine and Adriana, a 2008 graduate of UC Santa Cruz.

I attended the University of Puerto Rico, USF, and San Francisco State.

I have been a Montessori teacher for the last 22 years, and received my Early Childhood Montessori Certificate in 1992.

In 2008 I decided to open this school after seeing the need for a bilingual school in this community. I hope you find this web site helpful and decide to enroll your child in our school. I do have a warning: we give lots of hugs and kisses :)

Señora Ingeborg McDaniel
School Manager (really, runs the school) :)

I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and I still have relatives there.  I received my Bachelors degree in Electronics.  I came to the United States in with my cousin, her husband and little girl.  I met John and we were married for 34 years.

We lived in the state of Maryland before moving to White Rock in 2004. We became grandparents for the first time! John was already retired and we wan it to be part of our granddaughter's life.

My husband passed away 2 years ago and life is a little empty without him. I'm very blessed to have my two daughters their husbands and granddaughter near by. My daughter Shannon and her family live in Denver and my daughter Natalie and her husband live in Phoenix. I travel often to visit since we like to go shopping to our favorite store IKEA.

I had worked as an office manager at Sacks Fifth Ave, Macy's, and Lord and Taylor. Retail gave me the flexibility to be very active in my daughter's life as they were growing up and participate in sports activities, drama and do lots of volunteer work.

I enjoy nature, music, reading and most of all I love being around children, they really keep us young!

I am very happy to be part of BMS, and I'm here to serve you. You are welcome to stop by the office for coffee at any time.

Señora Irene Berenstein

Early Childhood teacher and Physical Activities Instructor

Hi,
I am Irene Berenstein. I was born in Argentina and moved to Los Alamos in 2003 when I married Ricardo, an employee at Los Alamos National Laboratory. I have one daughter named Sofia, who was born in the USA, and two step sons named Ignacio, and Hernan.

I hold two bachelor degrees, one in Physical Education for pre-School through college undergraduate(obtained in Argentina in 1986), and another in Education Studies (Faculty of Arts and Humanities, National University of Rosario Argentina, 1990). Having two degrees has given me the opportunity to work for many years, and teach varying disciplines at different academic levels including: College academia, and dance & movement studios where I have been involved in the organization of workshops, courses, sports and recreation activities for children, adolescents, and adults.

Although I have been involved in many teaching professions with varying age groups, I returned to my initial job of working with young children. They, after all, are the real little teachers.

My energy in the Bilingual Montessori School is devoted to the development of the children's movement, creative minds, and game play (indoor and outdoor), so that they can further learn to express themselves Baby massage, creative movement, gymnastics, yoga, and arts and crafts are some of the resources they will have available to them in the “Centers Room” to aid in their muti-level development.
